Review: 'Neverland Ranch Davidians'
'Neverland Ranch Davidians'

-  Label: 'Heavy Medication Records/Bandcamp'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '20.1.23.'

Our Rating:
The Neverland Ranch Davidians are a trio of bad hombres from Los Angeles, who used to be in The Hangmen, Pure Hell and Bad Actor as well as the Neighborhood Bullys, they are Max Hagen, Tex Mosley and Will Bentley. Who dream of living in a cult that combines everything wrong about Michael Jacksons Neverland and the philosophy of David Koresh's branch Davidians Waco complex, which is why they are signed to Heavy Medication Records in Warsaw Poland who want 45 Zlotys to save your soul with the power of Rock & Roll.

The album rumbles into life with The Gospel that is almost as dark as Harry Crews Gospel Singer as the low-slung guitars and drums take us to a dark place.

Rat Patrol sounds like they've been playing at club 930 and they needed to kill a few rats before going on stage, this is loose boogie laden raw rock & roll.

Fat Back features Tex on bass on this down and dirty ode to getting it on with that Fatback in the back of a car, this owes as much to Johnny Guitar Watson & Larry Williams as it does to Screaming Jay Hawkins as it gets down and grimy for you.

Aqua Velveteen is slow deliberate tale of getting knocked out by an indeterminate sexual being that's transfixed them with her Aqua Velveteen temptations to stomp on your heart as you explode in ecstasy.

Liquor Store is stripped to the bone adrenal basic rock & roll that almost re-works a Wesley Willis classic, only this feels a bit more fleshed out than that might suggest.

Solid Monkey Blues is jittery and suffering from a massive hangover as they try not to twitch too much hoping Cold Turkey doesn't have them on the run once more as they seek out the medication they need.

Butts In My Beer is a well-chosen cover of the Link Wray rumbletastic classic, amphetamine rocking instrumental.

Boys Don't Cry isn't the Cure classic, this is more guttural than that, as it admits that of course they do, as this feels like they might want you to sign along to it live.

Hen House features special guest bass from Smog Boaz from Tex & The Horseheads, it has some funky in your face guitar set against the whoops and hollers that come out of that Hen House where he finds his women, he also wants to send them back to that Hen House after he's had his fun with them.

Stigmata is an angry gospel blues in search of that spiritual being with the Stigmata who chooses to be martyred for your sins, although these guys are happier sinning than praying for salvation as a grimy as all hell guitar freakout unfolds.

Knee On My Neck pays its dues to The Dictators down on the Minnesota Strip where they search for girls who remind them of Mary Tyler Moore, rather than the underage scene the Minnesota Strip was notorious for, the screams of get off of me is certainly reflective of the tawdry nature of the homage they are paying while also have a howl of agony for the notorious recent use by the Police of a Knee On My Neck techniques with disastrous consequences.

The album closes with a cover of Ray Charles I Believe To My Soul played slowly, deliberately as a walking gospel blues with a twist as the lyrics about your woman crying out another mans name in the throws of ecstasy a chilling end to a very cool album.
