Review: 'BEASTIE BOYS'
'TRIPLE TROUBLE'

-  Label: 'CAPITOL'
-  Genre: 'Hip-Hop' -  Release Date: '13th September 2004'

Our Rating:
Maturing new york rappers Mike D, Adrock, and MCA's quick-fire vocal assault hasn’t changed much after a 6 year wait for “From the 5 Boroughs” which finally arrived early this summer to a decdedly mixed reaction. It's an album which saw the Beasties return to the simpler old skool sounds of the mid 1990’s post-"Paul’s Boutique" days.

"Triple Trouble" is the second single taken from the new album released on September 13th, recorded mostly in their own Oscilloscope studios. The track starts out with exaggerated cocker-nee chatter that would only previously have seemed credible in "Mary Poppins", but after this mystifying start, the boys lay it down with a concerted effect

"If You wanna Know The real deal about the three/ Well let me tell you/ We’re triple trouble ya’ll/We’re gonna bring you up to speed," they rap intensively over the a well-used sample from Chic’s “Good times” , which is of course also familiar to anyone who remembers the Sugarhill Gang's “Rapper’s Delight”. This simple cut of tweaks and beats plus their own original brand of rap ensures them another dependable commercial chart hit.

Anyone thinking the joke is wearing thin are quite plainly wrong, and with the promise of another new wackily cool video starring Bigfoot, this is The Beastie Boys at their irresistible best. They’re back and they still like to party. Or, as they so succinctly put it themselves...

"Moving the crowd, well that’s a must/ Got some words that apply to us... and that’s Mesmerizing, tantalizing,Captivating, we’re devastating."

Got that? Well, it's still the truth.
