Outland are a four-piece London-based rock band comprising Joe White on drums, Marco Hart on guitar, Josh Lebow on bass, and Lewis Antoniou on vocals.
The blurb for this, their debut, album promises ”eleven high-energy anthems with driving riffs, huge hooks, and powerful choruses. This is a fairly accurate summary of a record that is strong on enthusiasm but weak on inspiration or depth. “I’m in California, engulfed by your aura” is the opening line of the opening track Out Of My Mind and that’s about as poetic as things get.
This song is followed by Collision Course, an obvious single which contains the line “I’m too young to feel this old.” These are sentiments I, as an ageing reviewer, find impossible to empathise with and bring down the fact that the target audience consists of other 20 somethings with funk-punk beats designed to empower mosh pits the length and breadth of the UK
