Our Rating:
This three-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner makes no claims for breaking new ground but rather he sees himself as an archivist. This album is a celebration of traditional blues music and folk roots.

Browne says “If you like what you hear here, please seek out the original artists.” Following this advice would lead listeners in the direction of mighty performers like Mississippi John Hurt and Booker White and many of the songs are connected to the folk-blues revival of the 1960s.

The fourteen tracks start with Monday Morning Blues and end with Living With The Blues. Browne plays resonator guitar, tremolo 12-string guitar and gourd banjo. His vocal dexterity and musical prowess is proven by the fact that everything was recorded live with overdubs on only two songs.

Of the songs recorded he admits I do not own it; I am merely borrowing it, and I try to be true to its origins.

Browne demonstrates the timelessness of this music and by faithfully reproducing it he is providing a service of sorts, bringing it to the attention new generations.

He would be first to admit, however, that the source material is far superior.
