Review: '3 Clubmen,The'
'The 3 Clubmen'

-  Label: 'Burning Shed/Lighterthief'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '30.6.23.'

Our Rating:
The 3 Clubmen are a trio formed by Andy Partridge ex of XTC alongside Jen Olive and Stu Rowe who have combined to become a three-headed Frankenstein's monster dancing at a neurodivergent singles club, according to the press release anyway. Work on these four songs began in 2006 and has finally seen them completed and ready for release in 2023.

The Ep opens with Aviatrix a close intense flute and drum led song in praise of those brave women like Amy Johnson, as the vocals by Andy Partridge and Jen Olive impart lots of information, that will need to be heard a good few times to get everything, by which time this will have grown on you and you'll keep repeating Flying Flying at random point throughout the day, as the brass gets to you as you wonder if it really is a flotation device or not.

Racecar is a hazy paean to the need to own a Racecar that I'm guessing will be a souped-up Mini Clubman, this has lolloping percussion and woozy tones, slightly off centre like they need to sort out the tracking and balancing to stop them perpetually lurching to the left while Jen claims she's blue.

Green Green Grasshopper has warbling Grasshopper style sounds, pots and pan percussion with nursery rhyme style lyrics, for that Grasshopper they are chasing around the garden up and down the trees.

The EP closes with Look At Those Stars just not the sort who are on reality TV, they want you to gaze deep into space and study the stars In the sky as Jen's vocals have a winsome load back feel as all sorts of elements pull together in the music from Calypso beats, shuffling guitars with steel pan through the whooshing sounds this is really intriguing.
