Review: 'Brenda'
'Brenda'

-  Label: 'Last Night From Glasgow'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '28.7.23.'

Our Rating:
Brenda is the self-titled debut album by this Glaswegian trio of Litty Hughes, Apsi Witana and Flor De Hooge who believe Brenda represents everyone woman and the routine things that happen to them.

The album opens with Pigs that has stabbing synths and angry female vocals having a go at some perv who is trying all sorts, but should understand that no means no, as you'll never turn her on you Pig.

Early single Cease And Desist is a song my work music player loves, so I can now easily sing along with this great slice of protest pop, making sure he knows the order is in place, he should keep the hell away from her.

High Horse has a cool bassline set against the wavering synths as Brenda tells us just why you should get off your High Horse and admit what it is you've done wrong; The lyrics are more bitter than the music or the delivery.

Slave Dad is the sort of dad who is a slave to his kids and will do anything and everything to please them over the funky synths they sing his praises.

Microscopic Babe is slow thoughtful synth pop, as they tell us that the joy you give them is microscopic ouch, you just don't give them what they want or what they need.

Sure As the day is long this slow synth drawl will remind you why you've been left out in the cold as you stopped paying attention to her.

Shield is what you need to repel the idiots over super sparse synth and drum backing you had better just give it up.

Then album closes with Sleep Walking a cool slice of dream pop to help you drift away with them before the percussion goes well out there to wake you back up as the insane guitar mangling ends the album in a brilliantly unexpected way.
