Review: 'Berkley'
'Your Place'

-  Label: 'Big Secret Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '14.8.23.'

Our Rating:
Your Place is the latest single by Berkley that is the current moniker under which studio engineer Andrew Jones is performing, His career includes being on the songwriting team tasked with writing what was to be Michael Jackson's comeback album, before his untimely demise. As well as working with members of The Offspring. This ep is a foretaste of his new album Pueblo that's being released by Big Secret Records.

The ep opens with Your Place a winsome piano led indie love song as he tells us about how he's uncomfortable in himself while wondering if he can stay at Your Place, this is part travelogue, part seduction, while in the middle of a bit of navel gazing becoming oddly intriguing, with a quite layered production.

The first of two versions of Fiesta Day the unexpurgated version is a driving emo indie building anthem that has sort of road march drumming, twanged reverb guitar, telling us how he wants to spend that Fiesta DAY with no need of any reader's wives. The Radio Edit of Fiesta Day manages to shave a whole second off the song, I must have missed any offensive language in the other version as I don't get offended by anything in songs like this.

Pueblo Nights also comes in normal and no f word radio edit versions, as Berkley sings about what it was like growing up in Pueblo Colorado and not being like the other kids. This is a gentle plaintive song for trying to live without getting bullied and be yourself.
