Rewind Forward is the latest in a series of EP's Ringo Starr from the Travelling Wilbury's has put out in recent years. The EP will no doubt appeal to his fanbase by sounding very much as you'd expect it too.
For this EP Ringo has written the title song with his engineer Bruce Sugar and got some of his all-star pals to donate songs to the cause. Most of the Ep was recorded at Ringo's home studio in Los Angeles apart for Paul McCartney's contributions that were recorded at Hog Hill Mill in the UK.
The EP Opens with Shadows On The Wall a decent power pop song written by Steve Lukather, Joseph and Ray Williams that has some stellar guitar from Mr Lukather, as well as super steady and supremely on point drumming, as we find out all the things Ringo is singing about and on this tune his vocals are passably decent.
Feeling The Sunlight a Paul McCartney song that Paul plays most of the instruments on, is for me the weakest song on the ep, as they go on about just not caring, as long as they have some sunlight in there hearts, at least the message of wanting peace and love is still loud and clear, as it currently really needs to be, but the vocals could do with being a bit more forceful, he needs better backing singers than Paul is these days.
Rewind Forward is the one song Ringo wrote himself, then getting Joe Walsh and Steve Dudas to play guitar, on this pleasant background power pop song, about wanting to live a little in the past, while still looking forward and trying to make the world a better place, the sentiments on this song can't be faulted even if some of the lyrics are a little hackneyed, it's worth it to hear the guitar solo.
The Ep closes with by far the best song of the four Miss Jean that was written for Ringo by Mike Campbell from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers it also features Benmont Tench on Piano, it's been at least three months since he showed up as a guest player on a record I'm reviewing, this is an old school rocker that could have come out at any point in the last 50 years, this is easily the most memorable tune on the ep, as it revolves around Benmont's piano and Lance Morrisons bassline.
