Baskery is three sisters - Sunniva, Greta and Stella Bondesson - from Stockholm who harmonise in English over six-string banjo, upright bass, acoustic- and electric guitars and drums.
They signed WBR bros (Los Angeles) in 2014 but since 2018 the trio have been based in Europe.
V: End of the Bloodline is their fifth studio album and, after delays caused by the pandemic, it is the first in five years. It was recorded in a secluded Devon farmhouse and produced by Sean Lakeman, brother of Seth who plays viola on two tracks: Wolf Hook and Abracadabra.
One track of the twelve is entitled A Little Goes A Long Way and this is also a fair description of the record as a whole.
It doesn’t delve much deeper than the final track, Birds Of Passage, which contains the whimsical lines: ”I wish I had feathers and wings/So I could do all those birdie lil things.
Smoky blues combine with Emmylou Harris style country-folk melodies but, while it’s lively, catchy and fairly easy on the ear, it lacks the X factor.
