'Logos'

-  Label: 'Bandcamp/Deezer/I-tunes'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '2.2.24.'

Our Rating:
Logos is the latest album by Wichita Kansas based folk punks Carrie Nation And The Speakeasy and is the follow up to the band's sophomore album Gnosis that came out in 2018. The ep is self-produced by the band who are Jarrod Starling, Bryce Abood, Tyler Grubb, Dallin Bulkley and Josue Estrada.

Logos slowly fades in on Bad Miracles as acoustic guitars shimmer in neo classical figures haunted by Gabor Szabo, as if they are sitting out in the middle of nowhere at midnight gazing at the night sky, eventually some percussion and brass add detail and design into the beautiful soundscape they create.

Soot Follows Cinder is a jolt to the system as they suddenly sound like an amphetamine bluegrass version of Angry Johnny & The Killbillies, with grizzled vocals over the brass inflected bluegrass that rampages across the speakers, as this dark tale unfolds blending into Antonius Blocks Confession as the song goes full blown thrashgrass.

Cover The Altar works the loud quiet dynamic to maximum effect, as the sorrow of what happened at that Altar to make covering the crime scene essential unfolds against waves of brass and mandolins. The eventual trumpet solo has a similar feel to Los Plantronics.

Gulls Of The Glow has a frenetic drum beat that they build off of, as this frantic song unfurls among the darkness of the 2020's as they search for a Phoenix to bring salvation, from within the flames and rubble of modern existence, set to this frantic hoe-down with Jarrod's vocals sounding like a slightly deeper Paul-Ronney Angel on a tune that would sound perfect at the Gypsy Hotel.
