Review: 'Bad Brains'
'The omega Session'

-  Label: 'Bad Brains records/Org Music'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '23.2.24.'

Our Rating:
This is a 12" single sided re-issue of Bad Brains legendary Omega sessions ep, the 5 songs were originally recorded in 1980 at Omega Recording studios in Rockville Maryland as working demos, eventually being released in 1997 once H.R., Darryl Jennifer, Earl Hudson, Dr Know's legend had been sealed.

The ep opens with a version of the classic I Against I that feels stripped to the bare bones, the vocals are clear, the hardcore explosion is never far away, as they speed things up in the breakdown, getting more frantic, sounding more psychobilly than hardcore.

Stay Close To Me has a skanking beat that repeatedly fires up, as they make this sound like they are trying to pay homage to John Holt, but are adding in twists of new wave punk, this is about the sweetest sounding Bad Brains song I know of.

I Luv I Jah is also stripped back roots reggae with soulful vocals, making clear how much they Luv Jah this is almost close to being Lovers Rock, especially when they guitar solo soars against the tribal drumming.

At The Movies is a far more frantic harder edged punk song for the joys of spending your time At The Movies.

The Ep closes with the speediest most hardcore tune on the EP, Attitude of course has bags of in your face Attitude, that feels like it's smacking you over the head in righteous fury for the 1 minute 29 seconds it takes to blast into your cortex.
