Our Rating:
Till Deaf Do Us Part was the second comeback album after Slade had stormed the rock barricades at the Reading festival as last-minute replacements for Ozzy Osbourne in 1980 and originally came out in 1981. This re-issue has a couple of bonus songs on the cd, as well as coming in splatter vinyl or book cd package. It features the bands classic line up of Jim Lea, Don Powell, Noddy Holder and Dave Hill.

The album opens with a church organ and Noddy preaching from the pulpit on Rock And Roll Preacher (Hallelujah I'm On Fire) complete with call and response vocals, with the church congregation replying to Noddy's calls before the guitars come blasting in, guaranteeing everyone rocks along and joins in as required, as you've now entered the church of Slade may all who enter get down and have a good time, hallelujah!

Lock Up Your Daughters was one of the hits from the album and its greasy riff with pounding drums, those punctuating keyboard parts make clear that Slade are on the rampage, no woman is safe from them.

Till Deaf Do Us Part has the wall of guitars raining noise down on us, as the band make clear they are here for all time, making as much noise as they can and never taking the cheeky grin off their faces.

Ruby Red is a classic chugging rocker with lyrics of lust and mischief for what Ruby Red did to them or for them, or what they wanted from her, while in places sounding like they were fusing Van Halen into the classic Slade sound, although I don't think Noddy is in spandex.

Brings Out The Devil is in praise of the twin charms of alcohol and a strong woman who really gets them going, to flail us with some more classic guitars, with as ever pinpoint drumming nailing it as the backing vocals sound like a great gang to be in.

A Night To Remember is rampant, raging good times rock and roll, guaranteeing you'll have a good time with them, how could you argue with this super speedy tune.

M'hat M'coat is a very Gary Moore style instrumental rock interlude, with a string section, with some keyboards to prepare you for the rest of the album.

It's Your Body Not Your Mind needs flipping for today's market as it would possibly upset some people, as they tell us no matter how bright you are all they want is your body but let's face it this is all about having a good time and getting some at the weekend.

Let The Rock Roll Out Of Control does what it say it will, as the riffs beat us into submission, while making clear your never to old to Rock & Roll, so get your heads down and go for it.

That Was No Lady That Was My Wife is full of the grief of being caught out and about with someone, that no one believes is actually your wife, as the guitars go off in odd places between the riffing to allow for the right amount of outrage.

Knuckle Sandwich Nancy is about taking a beating and being revived by dear old Nancy, although not clear whose partner they had done the dirty with, to deserve to be knocked out with that knuckle sandwich, they don't sound too repentant as the drums start to sound like a boxer training, so don't look at them like that.

The album originally closed with Till Deaf Resurrected that revives the chorus and then leaves us with a sustained church organ coda.

The first bonus tune is Funk, Punk & Junk takes a classic chugging Nutbush style riff as they tell us how they have managed to survive Funk, Punk & Junk to be able to sell out venues the world over once more.

The album closes with the radio edit of Rock & Roll Preacher (Hallelujah I'm On Fire) that strips it of the magnificent intro and turns it into a rifftastic rocker perfect for some no-nonsense mindless boogie action.
