Luke Concannon and John Parker are long-term music buddies who have a current album "Half These Songs Are About You" on FDM. The two songs on this CD single were orginally released in 2002 and both show up on the new album. "Fine Story" is a funky little song, done with effortless skill and "Girls" is even better.
The general picture is luxury edition eclectica with unobtrusive references to Danny Thompson, David Gray, Van Morrison and all things jazz-tinged and r&b styled. Luke Concannon writes fluent, perfectly formed melodies and John Parker is a musician who can own up to the Danny Thompson influence without sounding like a wannabe. He plays well-manicured, luscious stuff and his arrangements flow like eddies in a wide river.

"Fine Story" has a jazz rhythm section, a perfect string quartet and a great girlie chorus. "Girls" is folksier without being folk. The beautifully sung tune (the boy has marvellous, understated control) presses against the string parts in a lump-in-the-throat-inducing way. Really good. See: www.nizlopi.com
