Review: 'ORUÃ'
'Slacker'

-  Label: 'K Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '24th October 2025'-  Catalogue No: 'KLP307'

Our Rating:
The music of Oruã has been variously labelled as Brazilian psychedelic rock, poor man’s jazz and working-class krautrock.

The fact that the songs are in sung in Portuguese adds an exotic authenticity to their sound although it owes more to American Grunge than the Tropicália movement. This is reflected by choosing to record the album in Seattle with Jim Roth, who also plays guitar, synth and percussion on the recordings.

Formed during improvisational jam sessions in Rio de Janeiro the line up is: Lâ Almeida (guitar/vocals), João Casaes (synths), Bigu Medine (bass), and Ana Zumpano (drums).

Of the track Casual Almeida says it ”addresses our indie rock essence with distorted guitars and lost dreams in melodies."

The lo-fi affiliations have been appreciated by Doug Martsch of Built to Spill which led to Almeida and Casaes collaborating on the Idaho band’s latest album ‘When the Wind Forgets Your Name’.

The loose feel of the ten songs benefit hugely from the insistent grooves which give this impressive record a dynamic energy.

Great band. Great album.
