'Bullets'

-  Label: 'Kitchenware Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'January 24 2005'-  Catalogue No: 'SKCD77'

Our Rating:
"Bullets" cracks a whip of rasping guitar in your face with the impatience of a band up and riffing before the desk was switched on. Fabulous. The tune eases it off a little. But it is a fine tune with a thumping bass and that flailing guitar comes back for a top up at every chorus. File under damn good single that would be Number One for a month if U2 had made it. Which they might have done if they'd written it first. It could be used as background adrenalin surge on Match of the Day too. "You are fading" is a bit mournful in sound as well as lyric (The Editors don’t do fun words). It turns epic as well though, so it also comes out as a big stadium companion to "Bullets". Great poundy drums and long-held notes by Tim Smith. And another ringing guitar chunk that starts to build about a minute in. As it gets brighter and louder a second bassier guitar comes in underneath and everything is gets huge. Producer Gavin Monaghan take a bow. Nice work Third track (value for money or what?) is "Dust in the Sunlight". This edges over towards Chris Martin territory harmonically and melodically speaking. (for which, read "emotionally speaking"). It could be spliced in and around "Yellow" for amusing effect. But Martin didn't write it and The Editors did (no, really, all of them – Smith, Urbanowicz, Leetch and Lay). And a right good softy song it is too. More of this quality please.
