Review: 'Split Dogs, Fantazmaz, Snatch'
'Live at The Underworld Camden'

-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '3.4.26.'

Our Rating:
This was a great Good Friday triple shot of modern punk that opened with the male Snatch rather than the legendary female band Snatch. This Snatch are a young trio who appear to be invisible online, so I am guessing at everything they play, from the opening of Snatch with the band name repeated over and over they had an Oi dub edge. If they mean Give Us Some Airtime I'd suggest getting some online way of finding you as a band, it had plenty of bite and some good angry scowled vocals, with the odd sign of a mosh pit beginning in an already Busy Underworld.

What A Day To Be had some cool dubby parts to the aggressive guitar punk. The best song of the set was I Don't Wanna Live With You (Disorder) that had bile and complaints of all the things you did to annoy him. They then went full on dub spaced out for A Lot Better that had hints of Ska-pop-punk and some cool effects. No More Scum seemed to get the pit going even more mad, the fact the pit was in the space at the back of the main dance floor was very cool indeed, so we could stay up front.

It didn't matter how angry they sounded they want to be Happy and got everyone bouncing around, with the bassist triggering deep dub effects before things got proper Dodgy in ways that were not about the band, but more the state of the world we find ourselves in. Soon enough like all good skinhead punks they were screaming and shouting about Satan and all his evil ways. We knew the code they lived by, it was laid out in The Boy Said Nuffink, making clear whatever they get up too, whatever you do, don't snitch on Snatch or they will send the boys round. They finished with one more bouncy angry dub punk screed whose title I don't know, they were a good fun opening band.

Next on were Brazilian British hardcore punks Fantazmaz who I've wanted to see for a while. They exploded with energy right from the start of Violator with Thami scowling the words at us while high kicking and stalking the stage. Raf generated loads of energy on guitar it was kinetic as Thami told us she wanted to Fight You. They wanted to make sure you were All The Way Dead crushed by Jamie Oliver's powerhouse drumming. Thami marauded around the stage screaming Have You at us in quite scary ways, when she asks What Do I Know, the reply would seem to be, loads about how to get a crowd going, the pit had opened up and was getting demented.

Probeza E Violencia was an ode to the bands Brazilian roots and was super intense with some howled screams, before Thami found a volunteer lady to carry her on her shoulders for the next song that had slight party edge to the pain they were exorcising. Bullets was a proper angry anthem against all the violence and killing, they introduced the bands new bassist Jon Priestly who has escaped from The Godfathers and was more than capable of helping them with that Suspect Device, that was played super speedy and with all the worries the IRA might be back again. They closed with Warheads about the war in Thami's head rather than the sort of War Head Jamie used to drum about with the UK Subs it was a good end to a very energetic set.

Then before 9pm it was time for Split Dogs to rampage across The Underworld, from the moment the Intro to Stay Tuned blasted out at us and Harry strutted across the stage it was 100% pure punk fun. Harry was high kicking and squatting while nailing the vocals, however out of Control Harry might have seemed they were super tight with Mil shooting off spiky riffs and intense notes at us while Harry yelled 1 2 3 4 and the mosh pit exploded.

Harry announced a new song for Suez to hit us with, another heavy bassline and more Rock & Roll. The shimmying and shaking never let up while Harry screamed Feed Her, Chris Hugall's drums seemed to have got even more immense for Here To Destroy the bands clarion call. They were all Twisted and taut ready for the totally in our faces Precious Stones with the sing along chorus of why does it burn? something you'll find out when you become Harry's Prison Bitch and get down and eat her snatch.

They then took us up north for Lafayette with Harry telling us she was born too late to be in those Northern Soul clubs that don't play taut energetic hardcore punk like this. Monster Truck roared through the Underworld like it was out of control. When Harry sang I Want You at us I'm sure no one would have said no, she is such a brilliant frontwoman, who had us all transfixed wondering what she needed One More of. They closed with the brilliant And What that had a massive pit and of course we all went nuts for an encore.

They came back out genuinely happy to have the Underworld going nuts, begging to hear All In which is the attitude they have, they then closed the night with a rampage through Just For The Hell Of It that left us all wanting more Split Dogs they really are one of the best live bands touring currently
