Our Rating:
Death From Above 1979 have re-released ‘Blood on Your Hands’ as a final taster before their debut UK album lands. For those familiar with their uncompromising sound this sits nicely as a companion piece to previous single ‘Romantic Rights’ and will only further persuade you to invest in their forthcoming album (which having heard I can confirm is excellent). For those new to the band, prepare yourselves.

‘Blood on Your Hands’ bludgeons the listener into submission with an all out drum and bass (in the literal sense) attack, complete with stop start intro, breathless vocals, strange moog sounds and faintly disturbing lyrics. Jesse F Keeler and Sebastian Grainger know what works for them and whilst not veering from a basic template that can be seen throughout their work, they never labour the point into boredom.

Proof of which can be found on the flip with ‘You’re Lovely (But you’ve Got Problems)’. A song seemingly written about several of my ex-girlfriends it lulls the listener into a false sense of security by being a bit quiet at the start before unleashing the metallic bass onslaught. Lucky really as for a moment I thought they’d let an unwelcome air of subtlety into their repertoire.

Gonzo genius of the first order, deranged, distorted and probably a lot easier to accomplish if they invested in a guitar, this is exactly the sort of record we need to soundtrack the chaos that surrounds us.
