Review: 'BROUDIE, IAN'
'SMOKE RINGS (EP)'

-  Label: 'DELTASONIC'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'February 2005'

Our Rating:
Gone is the pop optimist who brought us the sugar coated sounds of the Lightning Seeds, yet IAN BROUDIE remains essential listening.

Escaping his previous legacy is a challenge in itself, yet here he is with the mature folk sensibilities of a man who needs no introduction and who never needed to reinvent himself, yet he has. The voice is familiar, cracked and etched with solemn observational reflection, but distinctive nonetheless.

The ‘Smoke Rings EP’ carries with it a warmth and smiling honesty as wholesome as any of his previous accomplishments. ‘A Time To Live In Dreams’ carries tenderness with every strum of guitar and faltering pause, ‘Shifting Sands’ sways with wistful harmony whilst the instrumental ‘Spinout’ closes the album out in a wave of psychedelic melody.

So why did he escape his legacy? To start a new one of course.
