Black Nielson are a five-piece band from Hampshire. Having released two albums with Truck Records they decided that a move to Cornwall was what was needed to ensure continuation of their creative flow.
If this download single is anything to go by that has to be acknowledged as an extremely shrewd and successful move. The song is exactly what it says it is, a ‘love song’, and the token of the writer’s affection (apparently Cat Power) should feel extremely honoured. It is, without fear of exaggeration, bloody wonderful!!
One minute gentle, dreamy and full of yearning, the next ecstatic, pulsing and racing towards a climax - full of crunching rhythm, soaring guitar and plaintive vocals - that brings to mind the mighty (and criminally under-rated) Swervedriver. Throughout, the song builds almost imperceptibly taking in three moods in as many minutes but flowing one into the next with amazing timing and skill. At 69p this is a real steal – well, what are you waiting for?!
