Having reviewed Taj Mahal’s fine album 'Swingin’ Live at the Church in Tulsa' in 2024, I thought that might be the octogenarian’s swansong. It turns out he has no intention of throwing in the towel just yet.
Fittingly the follow-up album’s title track is all about the healing powers of time. This is a Bill Withers composition which has only previously been recorded as an unreleased demo. Producer, Steve Berkowitz, with the blessing of both Bill and Marcia Withers, brought the song to Taj and the band.
Other highlights include Bob Marley’s classic Talkin’ Blues with guest vocals from David “Ziggy” Marley, and an Afro-Cuban–infused and sexually charged You Put The Whammy On Me.
The blend of swing, jazz and reggae is delivered effortlessly and the great man is still in fine voice and clearly loving every moment. The backing musicians are a class act too.

Blues is, of course, the heart and soul of the sound so the title of track Ask Me ‘Bout Nothing (But The Blues) is self-explanatory.
With a discography going back to 1968, the word ‘legend’ is not misplaced when it comes to the great man’s long career.
And the final song - Rowdy Blues - gives notice that it’s not over ‘til it’s over.
