There's something a bit Tom Petty and something a bit Don Henley about Philadelphia singer songwriter FRANK BROWN. He's OK though.
Frank is no innovator. His songs are true-hearted down-the-centre countryish soft rock honesty. There are no spectacular melodies or stunning hooks. The words are workmanlike. His voice is friendly and warm. The guitars are reigned in and subtle. But it doesn’t add up to memorable. With 30 years of other people's much more striking back catalogue to chose from I can’t honourably force you to go and buy this simply recorded and simple-sounding album of pretty good tunes.

I think Bob Harris would play it and seriously consider putting into one of his shows to see if got an audience reaction. I'm sure that people who have seen a live show will get a strong personal connection and go home happy with the CD. But it is in the great tradition of guys who love to make music that starts with their favourite record collection and ends up with a more than satisfactory facsimile. It’s good but safe stuff. "Always Down" at Track 2 is a brooding "best of the bunch".
