Review: 'DEAD COWBOYS, THE'
'Liverpool, Everyman Bistro, 16th April 2005'

-  Genre: 'Indie'

Our Rating:
A short set, starting after 10 and only once the theatre crowd have had their fun and left, it is intense and packed full of the DEAD COWBOYS' finer moments.

Mainly tracks from their new album ‘Twin Evil Stars’ they are clearly showing the benefit of more forays onto the live stage after a considerable time away. Everything tonight is sharp (including the black suits), well paced and delivered with a certain amount of venom.

Becky on bass and Tony, drums, are as tight as the proverbial duck’s while Dave’s deadpan vocals and Greg’s smouldering and brooding guitar playing together create a sinisterly atmospheric whole. ‘Twin Evil Stars’ itself rocks, driven by drums and guitar while ‘Relentless’ is magnificent, a live performance allowing that sonic burn-out at the end to reduce to a series of twisting and spluttering death throes.

Unfortunately the atmosphere in the venue isn’t great, the small ‘3rd room’ being half populated by people merely trying to escape the crowded confines of the rest of the Bistro. A set this good deserves so much better.
