Review: 'BASEMENT JAXX (feat.LISA KEKAULA)'
'U DON'T KNOW ME'

-  Label: 'XL RECORDINGS'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '13th June 2005'-  Catalogue No: 'XLS215CD'

Our Rating:
With 300, 000 copies of their wicked "Singles" compilation already under their collective belt, inventive dance duo BASEMENT JAXX wheel out the star of their "Good Luck" smash, Lisa Lekaula, for another lap of honour.

And, while "U Don't Know Me" is a beaty'n'sassy affair in its' own right, it never quite takes off with the same pizazz. Not that it's bad, mind: it's still a squidgily memorable bloopy groove from Messrs.Buxton and Ratcliff with Kekaula demonstrating those teasing tonsils remain in feistily good form. Decent enough, if a tad formulaic.

As is usually the case with ver Jaxx, there are also a slew or remixes across the two CDS as well as another new track in "Close 2U". This one is a sparkly, glitchy, 21st century disco anthem, with compressed and vocodered vocal treatments supplied by Felix Buxton and Vula Malinga. It's filler, but acceptable filler, while the Solid Groove remix of "U Don't Know Me" is the craziest of the renovatory affairs. It's well squitty and minimal, finding room for militant laughter, hooting Donald Duck-style electronic blizzards and is truly impaired and weird. Commendable, but I doubt you'd want to hear it a second time, for all that.
