Review: 'FROWSER'
'HUMOUR & APOLOGIES (EP)'

-  Label: 'GENIN RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'May 31st 2005'

Our Rating:
FROWSER are a four-piece from the outskirts of London who seem intent on poking a finger in the eye of the music industry with their gritty, grungy, unconventional songs. First song ‘2.40’ is a hard-hitting track that brings to mind Rage Against The Machine; it’s one of those tinnitus inducing songs that you can’t help but listen to as loud as your stereo will let you. The guitars crunch, the drums pound and towards the end, singer JJ Waller lets out a spine-tingling roar that any snared bear would be proud of.

‘Shoulder Too’ seems to be an attempt to create something with a little more immediate accessibility as the verse builds into a chorus that shows drummer Hitch to be something of a whiz with the sticks. The song calms down a bit about three quarters of the way through, but don’t be fooled, the guitars of Waller and Zak are performing a pincer movement, sneaking up behind you to finish the song in a final barrage of noise.

‘The Purity Factor’ starts with some funky Flea-like bass, the guitars continue their bombardment, and from the way he sings, Waller sounds like the kind of bloke you wouldn’t mess with; I just hope his real name isn’t Rik.

‘Tangalised’ features some more chopped out guitar and drum heroics; you can’t really make out any lyrics, but musically it’s pretty stern stuff. It ends with one final assault that sounds like it’s not going to end until all the instruments are played to pieces and left burning on the floor, finally too hot for hands to hold.

'Humour & Apologies' probably needs – and I guess deserves – more than one listen; none of the tracks really grab you first time around, but I’d give it at least a couple of tries before making any sort of decision. Certainly not for everyone, but love it or hate it, it might make you want to smash some stuff up. You have been warned…
