Our Rating:
Flowerage is the latest album by Axis:Sova that was recorded in Chicago at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studios with Cooper Crain in the producers throne. Axis:Sova are Brett Sova, Jeremy Freeze, Josh Johannpeter, with additional recording at Sweat Loge, the album was mastered by JJ Golden and mixed by Cooper Crain.

The album opens with Blow Up that has a riff that keeps building with no hints of anyone walking round odd south London parks, while they are seeking objectivity and flash photography of the sort Bailey might have wanted to take you to task about. When and how are you allowed to take that pic in this museum while receiving another trigger warning.

Fictional Autonomy is a riff driven inquisition to the madness of the last few years in America, just how far things have fallen, all the cruelty from humourless fools, who they hope to vanquish on the end of the searing guitar solo, that cuts rapier like across the speakers.

Fever Days they are living in a country that has stopped immunising for easily preventable diseases, so Fever Days are becoming a more normal thing, insistent guitars nagging away at a scorched earth policy, that would rather you had diphtheria than a simply jab, hopefully sanity can return and health of the many can become a priority once more.

Flowerage has dark greasy bass gasping for oxygen, like a flower needs the sun and they do the dislocation dance to the rampant riffs. One Looks Nice has an almost nursery rhyme feel lyrically, with slower guitars and sardonic percussion that sounds like handclaps.

A Shadow is Not A Home but he was a hero to Jack Kerouac, proggy guitars widdle away within the propulsive widescreen drumming, freaking and peaking, finding that reverb pedal to add a funky edge.
Window is the slowest most thoughtful tune on the album, they don't appear ready to throw themselves out of that Window thankfully, while wasting away in a mirror, the surprise they feel at the bucking guitar sounds.

Slow Dissolve allows you to complain and moan with the best of them, this has an indie shoegaze feel, like they are ready to give up being Rawk gods to become wallflowers watching your house burning. The album closes with Monterey like they are cruising down there in search of Jimmy and that legendary moment, while singing about Jackie and how she bewitched and enchanted you.
