Review: 'BEAUTIFUL FEET'
'SUDDENLY/I SEE'

-  Label: 'Download - www.download.com/beautiful feet'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '06.05.05'

Our Rating:
BEAUTIFUL FEET are the latest name to pop their heads above the post-modern rock/pop parapet. This double A side is the second single (for 5:1 Records) from the Leeds five-piece, and is only available by downloading from their website. 89p for the two tracks.

Although for that, you also get previous single 'Headstrong', which is due to appear in the soundtrack to the film 'A Mind Of Their Own', to be released later this year, and these two songs will only add to that growing reputation.

For starters, 'Suddenly' should be a sure fire chart hit. The tender vocals of lead singer Nick Castle, are an obvious standout, but the track has a lovely meandering quality to it, building beatifully to its climax. The female backing vocals from pianist Helen Hicks are exquisite and gives the band's sound an added dimension.

'I See' is less exciting, but nonetheless competent in its construction. Strummed acoustics and piano are prominent, which put me in mind of The La's. Or is it The Cutting Crew? I can't quite decide. Anyway, although not the most original of sounds, Beautiful Feet are, at least, unashamedley melodic.

Musically, comparisons to Coldplay are inevitable, whatwith the lush synth tones, restless guitars and melancholic vocals. But, from what I've heard so far, Beautiful Feet should have enough individuality about them to cast off that particular shadow of banality, and make their name based on their own merits.
