Our Rating:
NYC-via-Connecticut quintet THE NATIONAL are already behind one of the year's most enigmatically exciting albums ("Alligator") and this downoad-only opportunity will bag you terrific new versions of two of its' most memorable moments.

Coming to you in subtly remixed form, "Secret Meeting" is trembling, nervy and glorious and graced by Matt Berninger's richly louche baritone. "I think this place is full of spies, I think they're onto me," is his Kafka-esque opening gambit, before he pulls the cloak of mystery tight around his shoulders with "Didn't anybody tell you how to disappear in a room?" The band, meanwhile, bring a cloud of beautiful melancholy that hangs heavy with beauty over the song as it passes by. It's semaphore signal pop at its' best and failing to decipher it will only bring you back again and again.

Hang on for the live version of "The Geese Of Beverly Road" too. This take is from The National's Radio France Inter Black Sessions slot in Paris back in April and finds them in rare form. It's giftwrapped in folksy pop splendour and smoulders every bit as beautifully as its' studio counterpart.
