Our Rating:
What on earth are they putting in the water in Sweden?

QUIT YOUR DAYJOB may hail from The Land Of The Midnight Sun but I suspect that they were ensconced for a number of years in a padded cell prior to their emergence as a deranged band of punk freaks. The trio have been avoiding the authorities for three years now, long enough to tour with The Hives and Turbonegro and to unleash this collection of 16 insights into their unhinged brains.

Clocking in at just under 30 minutes and heavily indebted to the early sci-fi punk of The B52s and Devo and the B-Movie psycho drama of The Cramps, ‘Sweden We Got A Problem’ employs a synthesiser for bass-lines and the kind of one-string guitar licks much favoured by the late Ricky Wilson. With song titles like ‘Pissing On A Panda’, ‘Sperms Are Germs’, ‘She-Male Godzilla’, ‘Brain In Vain’ and ‘I Need A Tour Guide For My Own Head’ it doesn’t take a psychiatrist to uncover what preoccupies these troubled young men.

Where such blatant daftness can so easily irritate, QUIT YOUR DAYJOB manage to stave off criticism by playing as if they believe the headlines they write: their funny bone may be warped but it’s definitely been tickled well. Repeated plays also reveal a method to their madness and an addictive musicality to the simple punk ethic. Long-term exposure may find yourself singing along to their unique perception of The Human Condition with lines like “Feels good / pissing on a panda / real cool / pissing on a panda / hey!” and “We’ve got a problem / we’ve got a problem / we’ve got a problem with Sweden” becoming invested with a disturbing clarity of insight.

Be warned: QUIT YOUR DAYJOB are gathering The Army Of Freaks to leave earth in 2016 for the planet 231179.

So you’ve only 11 years left to gatecrash their brand new Party Out Of Bounds.
