Review: 'BOLLEA, MELISSA'
'Simplicity'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '2002'

Our Rating:
"Simplicity" is the right word to describe this no-frills, straightforward Adult Contemporary record from singer/songwriter Melissa Bollea (http://www.melissabollea.com). Bollea has a delicate, polished voice that is easy on the ears, and her music further defines taste and class.

I don't want to use the Contemporary Christian Music tag on this CD although there are a few tracks that unquestionably fit that category. For example, in "The Greatest Man I Know," Bollea isn't praising a boyfriend or a husband, which is what you'd normally expect from the title. It is a song about God. "I wanna give what you gave Lord/To all who need comfort in their lives," Bollea sings, her voice comforting and uplifting. In "I Love the Music," she gives a higher power credit for inspiring her: "But the Lord he gave me music/He planted a seed in me/He said give the world the beauty/That I have given thee." It's a powerful moment. She realizes what she has been blessed with and is reflecting it to the world.

Nevertheless, on a stylistic level "I Love the Music" and "Where You Are Tonight" exist on a different plain than the other songs, aiming for a country feel. And it works, too, because the tracks contain the same amount of top-of-the-line production values.

"For You" and "The Greatest Man I Know" feature pretty piano, adding to the mixture of ingredients on the album. This is soothing soft pop with a strong emphasis on personal, engaging lyrics.
