Hailing from California's perma-sunny climes, currenty touring with hirsute heroes Kings Of Leon in the US and proffering a drummer named Tennessee Thomas (up there with Ryan Adams' steel player Cindy Cashdollar in my book), THE LIKE touch down on European shores brandishing loaded and disciplined rock'n'roll of the old(ish) skool variety.
"What I Say & What I Mean"s suggests The Like - also featuring bassist Charlotte Froom and Z Berg (guitar/ vocals) - are descended from that still powerful Ramones/ Runaways DNA. It clocks in at EXACTLY the three-minute mark (still often a good thing) and is executed with vigour, power and commitment, even if it comes up rather short in the originality department. It's also graced by (I assume) Z's breathy vocals which waft through the song with that lightly nicotined air that's just the job in this highly subscribed punk/ pop bailiwick.

So no major surprises, just good, streamlined rock'n'roll played with the requisite gusto and heart. Gimme this over the bluster Juliette Lewis is desperate to dispense as rawk authenticity any day of the week.
