Review: 'FEEDER'
'SHATTER/ TENDER'

-  Label: 'ECHO (www.feederweb.com)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '10th October 2005'-  Catalogue No: 'RADCD180'

Our Rating:
Both tracks from FEEDER'S new double A-side job are featured in Russian director Sergei Lukyanenko's "Nightwatch" (or "Nochnoi Dozor" for those of you fluent in Russian): one third of a sci-fi trilogy along the lines of "The Matrix". I've certainly not had the pleasure, so can't comment, but apparently said flick has already become the biggest grossing film in Russian history. Oh, and it's garnered praise from the likes of Ridley Scott and Quentin Tarantino. Impressive on paper at least.

But, due to his enforced ignorance of the film's pros and/ or cons, your reviewer will take the only other option and concentrate solely on the music. Not that, to be honest, it's difficult to imagine "Shatter" soundtracking state-of-the-art Russian sci-fi, as it's got most of the necessary ear candy: stuttery riffs and drums chasing their tail during the verses, strategic little hooks (the recurring "Crosstown Traffic"-style bit that could be a vocal, guitar or kazoo is especially cool/ irritating depending on your viewpoint) and a suitably widescreen chorus with Grant Nicholas slipping into his best emotive mode.

"Tender", meanwhile, is a gentler, more plangent affair, vaguely reminiscent of the band's third album "Comfort In Sound" and showcasing the more introspective side of Feeder that your reviewer finds himself welcoming a lot more regularly these days.

So no great alarms or surprises, then. Another above-average Feeder single cruises in for it's customary 7/10. I think that's the fourth time in a row now, actually. Hey, there's nothing like consistency, right?
