Review: 'MODELISTE'
'THE LUDDENDEN FOOT (EP)'

-  Label: 'DROPHANDLE (www.modeliste.co.uk)'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'September 2005'

Our Rating:
MODELISTE are a trio from Halifax who like, are and epitomise all things funky, funksome, funktastic, funkadelic and so on. In fact 'funky' is about the only word that springs to mind when listening to their latest release, 'The Ludden Foot EP' a record guaranteed to get your body a-shaking and your toes a-tapping along to their up-beat disco inspired beats.

The group's sound have been compared to the likes of James Brown, Frank Zappa and Sly Stone and listening to their record it is easy to see why this is the case. Modeliste take all the groovy, twanging bass lines, the energy and passionate singing from their mentors and mix them together to produce a sound that is tight, jazzy and just oozing in sexiness and funk.

Opening track 'We Need A Dancer' starts off with a bassline which would put most 80s funk bands to shame before kicking off into a catchy tune with funky guitar sounds, roaring saxophones and vocals by lead singer Ben Adey which are strong and powerful, and absolutely perfect for this catchy (funktastic) tune.

'The Lick' and final track 'Centrefold Lady' are both slightly more laid back tunes with ace vocal harmonies, and some jaw dropingly good guitar solos mixed in with, yup you guessed it, funky up tempo beats.

It is easy to imagine Modeliste's songs being used to fill dance floors in clubs around the country as their sound is absolutely perfect to get even the most reluctant and shy dancers up and away, bopping around like there's no tomorrow. This is an ace EP and a must have for anyone who likes all things groovy, jazzy and of course, funky!
