Review: 'DRIVE BY ARGUMENT'
'London, King's College, 26th October 2005'

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
I'm here for a 2nd night on the trot, even the doorman acknowledges the fact. Not the best of people to have remember you, as once the jazzerettes are blazin', he'll find me again.

First up are DRIVE BY ARGUMENT. A chaotic little 5 piece, based in Ayrshire, Scotland. Apparently they where randomly chucked together for a University Band Project, whatever that is, but the result they pulled out of the magician's hat can only be described as phenomenal.

This band catches your eye like a platinum electric fish hook.
What's mainly prominent is the lead singer and the fella behind the drums. On vocals and synth is Stewart Brock aka Stoke, a manic sight by any means. His performance is intense and frightening. He truly puts all his nuts'n'bolts into this set, going off like a spunky firework.

Lewis Gardener's drum kit is like any other, but with added electro tom toms. I can only describe him as making white hot noises like a tranny with a box of 10 bennies. Like watching a life dependant operation. Energy dripping from him like a fucked fridge, he cops his styles from the likes of Green Day, Doves and Gary Numan, all the while gurning like a sweaty raver off the TV programme BPM. He was the personification of a drumming masterclass.

Stoke and Lewis are complemented by Ryan Drewer on bass, who is solid, head down, no nonsense, as is Colin Keen on guitar and occasional synthesiser. Then there's Stuart Kennedy plucking the guitar and backing up Brock on vocals. All these chaps did an excellent job without breaking sweat. Indeed this was a headlining performance in itself: no pretence, no imitations, just a case of "have a listen to this, take it or leave it me ol Chy". Believe me it was well taken. It's surely just a matter of time before the big gigs start rolling in like barrels of fun.

Drive By Argument will put a fair few pretenders to the musical throne to shame. Their name is a little quirky and different, but hard to forget either. It was a real pleasure being driven first hand down the rock 'n' roll highway by this excitable young entourage.
