Review: 'MARIN, ROB'
'Never Tell Him (Re-Mix)'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '2005'

Our Rating:
Boy band veteran Rob Marin (http://www.robmarin.com) offers a slickly produced and highly attractive appetizer for his upcoming new album. The music on this CD single is mainly for the girls although anybody with a sweet tooth for contemporary pop is unlikely to shake it off.

Marin has the pin-up looks necessary for a major-label pick-up although the material here is not manufactured. Yes, it's very commercial; there's no doubt about it. But you do get the sense that Marin is sincere with his work, which is the most important thing.

"Never Tell Him" is basically the tale of an affair with a girl who's already taken. Set to acoustic guitars and rainy-day synthesizers, it can easily be mistaken as a simple romantic ballad there are wounds underneath the soft pillow kisses. The woman is actually quite unhappy with her relationship and is finding escape through the narrator. In style and tone, it is reminiscent of Savage Garden, a band that is certainly missed these days.

"Feelin' Dis," on the other hand, cops a hip-hop beat with Marin oddly recalling Michael Jackson at times. It doesn't touch the heart like "Never Tell Him"; however, it's not really supposed to. "Feelin' Dis" is a club track, and it sizzles sufficiently.
