Review: 'GLITTERATI, THE'
'BACK IN POWER'

-  Label: 'Atlantic Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '24 October 2005'-  Catalogue No: 'ATUK015CD'

Our Rating:
Lurching, unreconstructed visceral guitar rock with a pantomime leer, produced by Mike Clink of GUNS N ROSES pedigree, this single simply needs to be recorded as being in existence. Late though this notice is, there's something right about being way behind the pace with music as shamelessly out of its zeitgeist as this.

Your reviewer first saw the strut and kick of THE GLITTERATI back in 2000 when they were just as unselfconsciously retro as they are now. Sheer dogged love of the swagger has kept them climbing through name change and label ascent to the point where they are now with the monumentally covetable Atlantic logo. If THE DARKNESS had any genuine love or understanding of their genre, they would be THE GLITTERATI. Paul Gautrey and chums rock out with no irony, no pastiche, no self-doubt.

If you can only take small doses of this stuff (the artwork is a totally reliable guide), go retrieve this single. If you crave the supersize , both riff sodden tracks ("Back in Power" and "When The Money Runs Out" are glistening with slippery intent on October's Back in Power album.
