Review: 'DELIRIOUS?'
'PAINT THE TOWN RED'

-  Label: 'FURIOUS?'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '7th November 2005'-  Catalogue No: 'CDFURY10'

Our Rating:
"Paint The Town Red" is taken from DELIRIOUS'S new album "The Mission Bell." Apparently, it's their eighth, which alone proves Delirious? have achieved a certain longevity, or at least a dogged desire to survive. Which in itself deserves a modicum of respect, I guess.

But that doesn't mean we have to rate their music, and "Paint The Town Red" suggests it's nothing much worth writing home about. I mean, while "Paint The Town Red" is certainly a good few degrees south of horrible, it's little more than a bog-standard Brit-lite facsimile of the Foo Fighters/ Emo sound which continues to have a plague of locusts-like effect in college towns across America and will never amount to anything more than a quick-fix solution. There again, Delirious? do try to rock the 'controversy' vote, by hollering through a chorus of "gonna paint the town red with the blood of Jesus!" Oh goody: you can't beat a bit of mindless sectarian violence when "Frasier"s over, can you?

Me being the glutton for punishment I am, I actually hung around to listen to the remixes too. Not that I can spot any difference WHATSOEVER in the 'Audiostar Radio Remix'. The 'Audiostar Re-mix', on the other hand ( d'you notice this omits the 'Radio' bit? You gotta be sharp in this reviewing game, y'know) is actually quite inventive and sleek and has a passable stab at reinventing Delirious? for the U2 market.

So there you have it. "Paint The Town Red" is a minor scuffle that will surely have the band's bank manager in raptures, but is hardly liable to bother the discerning punter's scoreboard. It don't grab me.
