For the best hip-hop song of 2005, look no further than "Brother From Another Mother" on this gritty, well-produced compilation album. "Brother From Another Mother" is a powerful look at how violence is ripping families apart; its catchy chorus is deeply memorable and creates emotional wounds.
"Bread, Blunts & Broads" (http://www.oddballentertainment.com) is a surprisingly focused, mature, and articulate rap album. Every track was recorded with Taylor Golonka at the helm, giving it a nice coat of polish that doesn't water down the content but actually heightens the intensity with speaker-filling attack.

There is some potent commentary on this record. While "Brother From Another Mother" is the highlight, "Sing a Sad Song" is another letter from gang-ridden streets; it's a poignant, stinging look at growing up in a place with basically no future.
Admittedly, the title will have you expecting something probably generic; however, that isn't the case at all. This is top-of-the-line hip-hop, much better than what you'd hear on major labels.
