Review: 'YOUR VEGAS'
'London, Metro Club, 6th December 2005'

-  Genre: 'Rock'

Our Rating:
At first sight YOUR VEGAS could well be your average angular electro-pop male band that has rapidly become the bane of all our lives. Or mine at least. But I have to admit that I was really surprised at how much I liked, and (dare I say), totally enjoyed them.

It's electro-indie-whatever-buzzword-you-want-to-put-on-it, but done very, very well. All five of them looked dashing in their obligatory ill-fitting suits. Yes, they wore the uniform, but they made it their own.

The singer flounced about in the manner of Brett Anderson [not surprisingly, their manager used to manage Suede], sounding a bit like Billy Idol, all angst-ridden and gravely, mmmmmm yummy. Their songs had depth, but you could also bounce along quite happily to them if you wanted.

It's only a matter of time before the NME pick up on this band, court them silly, and put them on one of their tours; unless it might be a bit late in the day for a new band to join this rather tired genre. Hopefully though this band are going to go places.

All members have got bags of stage presence, they are categorically cool, and not in a contrived way either. I think they are just the dog's bollocks, and I just wondered why the venue wasn't packed out to see these guys. Oh well, more for me.

So on occasion, maybe they're a little bit Coldplay, maybe a little bit U2 (Oh sorry! same thing.), and even a little Starsailor, but we can forgive them that. The point is, they've got the right image, sound, and haircut (sic.) for what they do. But fashion and trends aside, their tunes are really catchy and poppy, and they even carried off a fantastic ballad that opened with the lyrics "I need a little love in my life." Don't we all, my friends, don't we all. Overall they were bloody marvellous.

After their performance, just to make conversation really, I asked them what cover they would release if they were to do so: "Well, we were going to do 'Hounds of Love' [Kate Bush] but the Futureheads did it first." So, I asked, who's done 'Like A Prayer' then? It was as though a light was switched on. "No-one we know of!" Yippee.

Ok, the reason I mentioned that conversation, is that if Your Vegas suddenly release a hugely successful version of Madonna's 'Like A Prayer', then I want it in writing, preferably published on an undergound music website that will have a lot of readers, that it was actually my idea. I did asked them for credit, for inspiration. "Ok, yer on!" was the cry, "It's gonna be a B-side!" Classic.

Go see this band. Now. Go on.
