Chapter XIII gained valuable exposure supporting The Stranglers in October, but, judging by ‘The Last Time’, the Bristolian five-piece are more pomp than punk.
The single’s insistent strings combine with oddly funky slap bass to create a Led Zep-esque quasi-Middle Eastern swirl. ‘The Last Time’ builds to a satisfyingly heavy climax, making its somewhat overought lyrics (‘And in the end was the beginning’ repeated ad infinitum anyone?) just about bearable.
