Review: 'SUNSHINE UNDERGROUND, THE'
'COMMERCIAL BREAKDOWN'

-  Label: 'CITY ROCKERS'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'Jnauary 2006'

Our Rating:
THE SUNSHINE UNDERGROUND are everything you expect from a Myspace band and more. They’re edgy, rocky (but not too rocky) catchy and cool. Oh so very cool.

Not only are they part of the Leeds music scene dominating the charts at the moment (think Kaiser Chiefs, The Cribs etc) but lead singer Craig Wellington has the uncanny ability to sound like Brandon Flowers- the voice behind last years band of the moment, The Killers. Don’t let this deter you though, as ‘Commercial Breakdown’ is the perfect pop song, you can sing along, the chorus is simple and memorable, yet sounds nothing like anything else in the charts at the moment.

B side ‘That’s The Way It Is’ sounds like electro-punk band The Rapture. A fast paced, funky tune with the lyrics shouted over the top. It’s precisely the kind of tune which deserves to turn into a dance floor filler at anindie disco near you. It is easy to see why The Sunshine Underground have a loyal underground fan base and are fast becoming NME’s band de jour- but for once the paper has it spot on!
