Our Rating:
Not enough people took notice of their invite to discerning Londoners’ THE BOY LEAST LIKELY TO’s recent “The Best Party Ever” album.

A gentle, old-fashioned indie affair, it erred on the vulnerable side and while I know it’s unusual to find this normally Belle & Sebastian-avoiding reviewer to come within pummelling distance of anything that could be construed as ‘twee’ (gag!), well in the case of TBLLT well…let’s just say an exception can be made.

Because there’s just something inherently attractive about this lot. Yes, “Be Gentle With Me” – also the album’s opening cut – is a typically twinkly, lovelorn affair (and I do mean as in tinkly, school assembly glocks, scrubbed banjos etc) but it soon proves its’ mettle and opens out into a disco-groovin’ stomp of a chorus that will sweep you off your feet in spite of yourself.

So there you go. Allegedly hard, cynical and jaded reviewer falls prey to his softer side? Probably. But then, can anyone with a soul possibly deny a couplet like “If I wasn’t so happy, I wouldn’t be scared of dying” when it’s sung so obviously from the heart?

Go on, I’d like to see you try too.
