Review: 'Homewrecker'
'Wasted'

-  Genre: 'Heavy Metal' -  Release Date: '2005'

Our Rating:
Seattle music is not what it used to be. For those who lucky enough to have heard the crazed, mercilessly loud rock & roll emanating from the Emerald City in the late '80s and early '90s, before flannel became a national fashion plate, it was an explosive experience. Now all we get are friendly acts such as the Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie.

Well, screw that.

For those missing the politically incorrect balls-to-the-wall hard liquor that Seattle was made famous for, time to salute the ladies in Homewrecker (http://www.homewreckermusic.com). "Wasted" is a fist-pounding blast of big power chords and singalong choruses. Unlike Seattle's seminal grunge acts, Homewrecker aren't afraid of admitting their spandex influences, namely Motley Crue and Van Halen.

But there's much more grit in Homewrecker's sound than most of the crossover '80s headbangers. The naughty "Wasted" is a drunken anthem with the guitar sludge of Black Sabbath in their prime. On "What You Know," the girls recall the metallic punk of L7 when they used to shred Seattle clubs. Even better are the epic grund of "Left Behind" and "American Scheme," both of which exhibit traces of Alice in Chains' widescreen guitar thump.

It's time to bang your head again.
