Review: 'RIVAL JOUSTAS'
'DEMO EP'

-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'February 2006'

Our Rating:
RIVAL JOUSTAS bring to us a demo CD crammed full of epic prog rock that bursts with melodrama, maybe erring on the Spinal Tap side, but good fun all the same.

Imagine Jim Morrison fronting Metallica, singing about “little small men”. For in all it’s glory and seriousness - for these peeps don’t sound like they take the piss - it’s a little unhinged. You expect to hear someone in the background shout "Do Stonehenge!" half way through.

Rival Joustas are seemingly adept at generating dark atmospheres that have the net result of making you want to go into battle, it’s no coincidence that traditionally many prog rock fans ended up looking like Vikings (minus the horned helmets, but then again…). I might have a listen to this in the morning before I tackle London Transport in all it's glory.

Evidently, this band pride themselves on their experimental take on their music – their next demo promises to be more adventurous. It could go horribly wrong, or it could create something sublime. Whatever happens though, we’ll keep and eye out, and keep you posted.
