Review: 'LATITUDE/ LONGITUDE'
'LATITUDE/ LONGITUDE'

-  Label: 'EARLY THIEVES'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'February 2006'

Our Rating:
Latitude/ Longitude’s self titled second album takes a while to get into, but once you’re hooked, it’s hard to let go.

Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, it is clear to hear that the duo, Michael Garofalo and Patrick McCarthy are influenced by bands such as Tortoise and Mogwai as well as Japanese electronica, with every song filled with electronic bleeps, dots
and wobbly bits. Each track builds up slowly, adding layer upon layer of sound, vocals and volume before gently ending in the way that it began.

Amidst the (mostly instrumental) gentle, melodic songs, there is one lively and upbeat guitar tune (‘Something Unfriendly, Right?’) which breaks up the otherwise slow, minimalist tacks on the record, and helps lend the album an individuality and spirit sorely lacking in other similar, more accomplished releases.
