Our Rating:
“You Bring Me To My Knees” is the debut single from London based indie rocksters THE BLEEDING HEARTS, a chirpy indie pop snack, with a catchy chorus where the vocalist, Markus, sings like he’s about to drop his chips, and the band give it some punchy sha-woddy-woddy action – not quite air guitar material, but you will probably end up with a desire to sit in a 1950s diner, drinking a milkshake through a straw in a Happy Days stylee.

Not to mention that they’re singing about how he told a girl he loved her but he doesn’t really. But she brings him to his knees (and then the chips are well and truly dropped). Cute.

The track is seriously catchy, and it took a while to figure out why - but as it turns out, the chorus sounds very much like the Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale”. Fair enough, many songwriters stand on the shoulders of giants, look at everything by Oasis for crying out loud.

But the second track, “Out of Sight, out of Mind” cribs the style of Mercury Rev so much that they may as well sell themselves as a tribute band. On the one hand this demonstrates versatility and a wide range of influences. But here, the extent that they’ve drawn on MV’s influence is a bit on the shameless side. Saying that, at least they frequently cite their references, so they’re honest about it. But friends, what is so good about emulating other people’s work? The music industry is eating itself up by constantly re-introducing one ‘sound’ after another. Stop being the hounds of Satan, and as ‘Y Don’t You’ would put it, do something less boring instead.

So putting two and two together, it’s easy to come to the conclusion that The Bleeding Hearts are nothing but a group of philandering cads and plagiarisers. And they would’ve gotten away with it if it wasn’t for us pesky kids
