Review: 'KARMA DESTINATION'
'AFTER DARK (EP)'

-  Label: 'www.karmadestination.co.uk'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'April 2006'

Our Rating:
KARMA DESTINATION. Not the name of a cosmic space ship, or a space-cadet stoner festival somewhere in Shropshire. No, it’s the name of a rather fine band who are amongst the new wave of groups who are heralding the return of the shoe-gazer.

Quite simply, their new single, ‘After Dark’ rocks like a bitch on heat. Front man ‘Davy C’ (clearly this band have a love of awfully cheesy names) has a powerful voice that carries over the layers of noise in a manner similar to that of Richard Ashcroft – in fact I’d hazard a guess that Mr Ashcroft and the Verve are perhaps one of Davy C’s major musical inspirations.

However, there is an annoying dichotomy here – a band that produces a good, rich sound that is very credible, coupled with an off-putting band name that tempts you to cringe your own head inside out. What were they thinking?

They would have scored a better mark out of ten, but points were deducted because their band name is too tragic.
