No alarms and no surprises, THE LIKE’S new single “What I Say And What I Mean” is yet another slice of punchy, snack-size New Wave/ Grunge Lite.
The production from Wendy ‘Wendy & Lisa’ Melvoin is bright and durable, there’s just about enough breathiness in Z.Berg’s voice, just the right amount of sassy yelp in the chorus to merit the epithet ‘L7-ish’ and no doubt Tennessee Thomas’s Dad is rightly proud of his daughter’s prowess behind the kit, but ultimately it’s a rather meagre hill of beans to amount to.
So, y’know, that’s about all this reviewer can feel and think about “What I Say And What I Mean.” There’s not much to misinterpret.
