Washington trio MY LUCKY DAY have a melodic and uplifting sound that is pure pop. Acoustic guitars carry Victoria Patchen’s crystal clear vocals along with ease throughout this six-track release, as tales of domestic violence and fondly remembered memories of past love affairs unfold, detached and yet poignant through the retrospective sentiment.
Highlights of this dreamy, hazy summer sunshine soundtrack are the blissful ‘Time Will Only Know’, featuring rhyming verses of distinction, and a slightly distorted, gain-heavy guitar sound cutting through the rays of the sun like the scythe that cuts through time.
‘Nikita’ is another tune, right from its melancholy piano-led opening. That tempo is so relaxed that it will fall over, but it seems perfect for reflection, as perfect 20/20 hindsight is used as a painful yardstick for past mistakes.

It amounts to a well-crafted and delicate release, layered with classic rock sounds and thoughtfully arranged. The one drawback is the understated subtlety of these songs, which gives them the ability to float right past you, however beautiful they are.
