THE NOISETTES are yet another bunch of hotly-tipped indie darlings destined for big things who are already coaxing superlatives from the broadsheets (“Britain’s best live band” according to The Guardian) and spending their time being seen and heard at all the right festivals such as SXSW.
So it’s easy to succumb to cynicism before they’ve even played a note, but thankfully perseverance pays off as “Scratch Your Name” really ain’t bad at all. OK, it’s true that they will stand out from the pack immediately thanks to singer/ bassist Shingai’s smouldering, junior Grace Jones looks and her soulful vocals (which bring The Bellrays’ Lisa Kekaula springing to mind), but – taken on its’ own merits – “Scratch Your Name” is a decent indie buzzbomb on a pleasurably short fuse with a chorus (“scratch your name into the fabric of this world before you go”) which grasps for longevity.

Whether The Noisettes will attain this remains to be seen of course, but at least they’re striving, which in this quick fix world is admirable in itself. Watch this space.
