MOJAVE 3 have been around a bit (since about 1994), so with their new single “Breaking the Ice” no-one can accuse them of cribbing the recent wave of Keane/SnowPatrol epic pop-ness. The song’s alright, they’ve got their jingles in the right places and its nice n catchy. Nothing in the jaw-dropping regions of greatness though.
It would seem that Mojave 3 have chosen to release their more commercial number as the single – well, this is the only reason I can think of them choosing ‘Breaking the Ice’ over ‘Star in the Sky’ – the second track on their EP. It’s marvellous! Mojave 3 really come into their own with this uplifting country-inspired ditty – there is something about a pedal steel that makes the knees buckle, and theres enough there to render one a heaped pile on the floor (and a happy one at that).

All in all, not bad – and if the stylistic variation on the EP reflects what will be on their forthcoming album, then it certainly promises to be an interesting listen.
